About G-Con: the Event
G-Con is short for Gundam Convention. The event will be hosted by Japan:Cool, an online retailer of Gunpla (the term for Mecha Model Kits from Gundam). Gundam is a Sci-Fi Mecha & Military-based Japanese animé that has been running since 1979 (and you can buy Gunpla of your favourite Gundam mechas in the many TV series they have). Our company, Japan:Cool, attend Comic-Con several times a year (including London) and we have always enjoyed the vibe that is created at our stall, as Gunpla Builders will spend a while talking to our staff about their favourite model kits, including techniques or favourite TV series. We thought it would be fantastic to extend this feeling from a stall to a venue, with its exhibitors and events entirely devoted to the market.
There is great potential for the fandom of Gundam to increase, given the enthusiasm we see in our customers. So what better than to run a convention that celebrates the world of Gundam and Gunpla? This will also be a great opportunity for as many UK-based fans to be in the same place, surrounded by everything Gundam and also to meet fellow builders and mecha lovers.
G-Con is a family event and is for all ages. We will be giving out free Gunpla kits to children under 10 to introduce them to the hobby. Although, wire clippers are used to detach the parts that make up the mecha, so it isn’t advised for very young children. As for the adult modellers, a lot of them will create stunning work after building their kit, by painting, airbrushing, detailing and/or weathering the kits, to create a realistic-looking robot/mecha. Some people will even build one model by using parts from several model kits and it’s a very technical and creative fandom. G-Con will be a chance for everyone, young or old, to find out more about it all.
