The Stage Line-Up
Driven by the enthusiasm of the staff, charisma from the Master of Ceremonies and the passion-fused expertise of our special guests, the stage’s full line-up was a hit with our attendees. Featuring 3 panelists alongside live podcast and music, it was a wonderful combination of model kit technique presentations and superb entertainment; all centred around Gundam.
Nadeshiko from Maids of England delighted us with her beautiful singing voice and sang a myriad of Gundam Covers. Always gracing her presence at Comic-Cons, there’s always a chance to catch her performances. Be sure to check out our interview to learn more about Nadeshiko and Maids of England.
(Panelist for Building & Painting)
Stuart Lathe has been successfully running his own YouTube channel since 2012, offering videos of model kits unboxing’s, full-build airbrushing and more. Brush painting models for most of his childhood, he eventually introduced an airbrush and compressor to his work. Better late than never, he spotted the Nu Gundam Ver Ka and immediately bought his first Gundam model kit.
Wanting to share his expertise, he began his YouTube channel and as the buzz in the digital community increased, the more recommendations for Stuart to compete popped up. So that’s what he did! He gained 4 trophies (including Gold) for two model entries on his first run at IPMS Scale Model World Telford 2014.
(Panelist for Painting & Weathering)
Emilio M has been painting models for 6 years, including weathering and airbrushing. He has been influenced by Asian culture and animations and 80’s/90’s TV Shows such as Robotech and Transformers in his childhood. Upon adulthood, his interests veered towards the ‘Aliens’ movies and the dark worlds of sci-fi and cyberpunk which helped define his inspirations.
His original choice in colour palette came to be because in Sweden, where Emilio originates and resides, people like to work in browns/blacks and he craved for more colour. Inspired by neon lights and cyborg technology, his unique style of painting features strong neon and he finds Gunpla the most enjoyable model type to work with due to it being a larger scale. (Panelist for 3D Printing)
Mike has been into Japanese robots of various kinds for a very long time with Transformers, Gundam and Macross close to his heart. His obsession for Gunpla grew until his heavily-customised Master Grade kits were winning 1st Prize repeatedly in the model contest at Canada’s Animé North Convention. He also found himself mysteriously buried under a pile of HG Gundam Build Fighters kits, shortly after the animé’s release.
Having picked up some kudos for the Transformers figure accessory and conversion kit designs, it won’t be long until he starts using his 3D Printers to crank prototype Gundams out like a UC Sidestory manga! View his portfolio here.
Gunpla Club is a podcast about Gundam and Gunpla, by four idiots in London. The idea started with an actual Gunpla Club, where they’d meet up in a pub in East London and build Gunpla together. It wasn’t long before a microphone got involved.
Calum (@clap_mutation) is the newest to Gundam, but has already built a very impressive Gunpla collection, including some finds from his travels to Tokyo. He is the founder of gunpla-base.com and the musical mastermind behind the Gunpla Club theme song.
Sayem (@SayemAhmd) is the Meijin, with nearly 200 kits under his belt and years of experience, he has finally found other people to talk about Gundam with. He’s also very passionate about Seed Destiny… we’re not sure why.
Sam (@Crunch_King) isn’t interested in your nonsense. Sam is the Judau Ashta to our Kamille Bidan. He likes his Gundams chunky and gritty, with big guns, much like his favourite wrestlers.
Will (@thequiffisdead) is a notorious Reconguista in G apologist, and he will fight for that show to the grave. He might also have a slight obsession with Char and has a growing collection of Zaku II’s.
Involving the audience and adding a great sense of humour to it, Gunpla Club gave us an exclusive to G-Con 2016 live podcast. Be sure to subscribe to their YouTube Channel to listen to their current podcasts, it’s a great listen while you build too!
